We are on shaky ground!

Scrolling through Facebook today and read a post that I just had to share! Alisa Toth, Loan Originator with Guild Mortgage Company posted an informative and friendly little reminder of the importance of double strapping your gas water heater!

Her post read: " For the record: the last couple of days of earthquakes and after shocks is why it is required to strap your water heater...you're welcome." Great job Alisa and thank you for the reminder! YES! This, (among other reasons) is why it is important to double strap that bad boy and make sure it is installed properly and up to code. With all the shaking going on, what a bad Fourth of July it would have been if your H2O heater went tumbling over! YIKES! If your water were to fall there is a possibility you could sever gas lines and cause an explosion! Sounds like a bit more bang than you might have wanted on your Fourth of July-or perhaps ever! Your water heater needs to be securely braced to the wall with TWO metal earthquake straps. Sorry guys, a bungee cord won't cut it and don't even think of grabbing the duct tape! If you're not sure if your water heater is installed properly you can call a local plumber, home inspector or visit: documents.dgs.ca.gov Follow the guidelines and stay safe! I might also add that if you plan to sell your home/ property an appraiser will be checking the water heater as a part of their appraisal inspections. Don't get caught off guard at the POS. Trust me, this will be the last thing you will want to deal with and your buyers won't be too fond of having to pay for an appraiser to re-inspect the property. In summary, strap it, not once but twice and strap it good! Be sure protect your home/ property and the safety of it's oh- so lovely inhabitants and ensure that your gas water heater is installed properly and meets all safety guidelines. xoxo!
